Builder of Kingdoms
Six ventures. An AI workforce of over 160 agents he built himself. Thousands of experts mobilized. In 2026, honored with the Harold Washington Cultural Center's Community and Technology Impact Award. Two decades of building at the intersection of technology, culture, and community, from boardrooms to block clubs, from corporate strategy to AI systems that run while he sleeps.
The Builder
Todd Walton doesn't build things to impress people. He builds things that work, that last, and that multiply. He has been doing it for over twenty years.
In 2008, he launched The Hip Hop Democrat, which would become the longest-running independent platform at the intersection of hip-hop and politics. He built his corporate foundation at Redbox, where he directed marketing operations, launched the Redbox Rewards program, and built an Innovation Council that generated over 300 ideas with projected revenue of $25-$100 million. Across two decades of marketing campaigns, community engagement initiatives, and media operations, his work has generated over 25 billion impressions.
He spent 13 years alongside Reverend Jesse Jackson at Rainbow PUSH Coalition, learning how power moves, how coalitions form, and how to build bridges that hold weight. He served on the board of Donda's House (now Art of Culture), advised Dr. Mae Jemison's foundation for nearly a decade, and embedded himself in Chicago's civic infrastructure.
Today, he operates as Director of Experts at The Desire Company, managing a community of over 2,200 verified experts for the world's largest brands. Simultaneously, he runs Project Baseline, his consulting entity serving nonprofits and cultural institutions. He builds with a self-made AI ecosystem of over 160 agents, and teaches the Kingdom Build Framework so others can architect sustainable, purpose-driven ventures. In May 2026, the Harold Washington Cultural Center honored him with its Community and Technology Impact Award, recognition for the technology work directly.
His work spans continents, having spent significant time in South Africa and Kenya, bridging diaspora communities and building cross-border relationships that go deeper than business.
The framework Todd builds by. Every venture, every system, every decision filters through these five principles.
See it before you build it. Understand the landscape, the stakeholders, and the real problem before moving.
Systems over hustle. Build the architecture first, then let it work. Repeatable, scalable, durable.
You don't own what you build. You're responsible for it. Treat every resource, relationship, and opportunity as sacred.
Vision without action is decoration. Move with precision. Ship. Iterate. Show the work.
Build what outlasts you. Kingdoms, not empires. Things that serve the people who come after you.
By The Numbers
Two decades of building leaves a measurable footprint.
The Work
Five dimensions of a career built on range, depth, and purpose.
Thirteen years working alongside Reverend Jesse Jackson at Rainbow PUSH Coalition. Nearly a decade advising Dr. Mae Jemison's foundation. Board service at Donda's House (Art of Culture). The relationships are real, built over years, tested under pressure.
Founded The Hip Hop Democrat in 2008, long before "hip-hop and politics" was a mainstream beat. Over 500,000 lifetime visitors and 18 years of consistent publishing. The longest-running independent platform in the space.
Building automation systems before AI agents were a mainstream conversation. Today, that foundation powers a self-built AI ecosystem of over 160 agents running research, content pipelines, operations, and strategic intelligence across six ventures simultaneously. No dev team. No enterprise budget. Just a practitioner who builds what he needs. The work earned the Harold Washington Cultural Center's 2026 Community and Technology Impact Award.
Harold Washington Cultural Center strategic consultant. TWBB cooperative governance architect. TEDxChicago Lead Curator and Production. Art Institute of Chicago Associate Board, Communications Chair. Thousands of young people impacted through civic programming, mentorship, and cultural organizing.
From South Africa to Nairobi, building authentic relationships across the diaspora. Nexus Nairobi and work on the continent reflect the slow, real work of connecting communities, understanding shared history, and building infrastructure that spans borders.
